BES Scholarship

Carnegie Robotics’ vision is to increase the number of black engineering professionals in the technology workforce!  Therefore, we introduced the Black Engineering Scholarship (BES) Program.

This program promotes educational and economic equity through community outreach, professional mentorship, and financial assistance to students from the Greater Pittsburgh Area’s black community – who are pursuing a degree in an engineering discipline.

Each year, up to four (4) Pittsburgh-area high school students will be chosen to receive the Carnegie Robotics’ Black Engineering Scholarship (BES)!

Program Benefits

  • Mentoring for technical degree selection, college section, and for college applications.
  • Invitation to tour CR facilities and meet engineering staff members (COVID-19 restrictions permitting).
  • Financial assistance up to $400 to cover the cost of standardized tests and college application fees.

Bonus!!: Distinguished Scholar Award

  • BES Program participants will be considered candidates for the Carnegie Robotics Distinguished Scholarship – which awards $5,000 per year in scholarship assistance to accredited engineering colleges and universities (renewal for up to 4 years, or $20,000 total).
  • Recipients of the CR Distinguished Scholarship will receive both monetary assistance, and mentoring throughout their collegiate years.
  • Opportunity for a CR-sponsored summer technical program after their senior year of high school is completed.
  • NOTE: One (1) student from each year’s BES program will be selected for the Distinguished Scholar Award.
