Job Description (What this job is)

As a member of Carnegie Robotics you will join a multidisciplinary team of engineers who are tackling today’s most challenging problems in vision processing and automation. Spanning multiple industries including defense, materials management, energy, construction, agriculture, and sanitation, Carnegie Robotics applies its expertise in vision systems, automation, and robotics to solve problems faced by various market sectors.  You will be working with the electronics that drive rugged, full robotic systems.

We are looking for an engineer who loves to get hands-on with hardware, won’t give up while solving tough problems, can build reliable and easy to use systems, and is excited to work with people across many fields of engineering.

You will build systems that ensure every product shipped to customers is of the highest quality. To do this you will work with a multifaceted team to determine test requirements, design custom hardware test setups, and deploy those setups into production. As products fail testing you will be responsible for debugging and diagnosing the failure, and then identifying ways to prevent it from happening in the future. The devices under test will range from printed circuit boards, cable harnesses, and full robotic systems.

Manufacturing Test Engineer

Roles and Responsibilities (What you’ll do)

  • Design test equipment and develop test procedures to guarantee the quality and performance of CRL customer deliverables.
  • Define clear goals for all aspects of a product test. This includes developing steps for proper execution, providing detailed specifications, and determining time and scope required.
  • Troubleshoot electromechanical product failures using test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, torque transducer, and environmental test chambers.
  • Develop circuit board level tests. Depending on the product these tests will be used during system assembly, incoming inspections at CRL, or integrated into a vendor’s end of line testing.
  • Work collaboratively with Engineering, Production, and Quality groups to develop test procedures and requirements.
  • Work with differing stages of products; from rapid prototype to high volume production.
  • Troubleshoot processes and maintain test equipment.
  • Train colleagues on testing procedures, ensuring safety, quality, and ESD standards are maintained.

Qualifications (What We’re Looking For)

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or the physical sciences
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • 4 year+ Experience in hardware and software development to support product testing
  • Systematic problem solver, proactive and action oriented, enjoys working the fine details
  • Excel within a cross functional team environment, while maintaining a customer driven focus
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and ability to multi task in a fast paced engineering/manufacturing environment.

Preferred but not required Qualifications (How you’ll stand out)

  • Electrical Engineering Degree
  • Experience with precision instrumentation and complex electromechanical systems preferred.
  • Experience with PCB design and layout
  • Basic knowledge of at least one programing language
  • Comfortable working in a Linux command line environment
