Senior Mechanical Engineer
Carnegie Robotics builds custom robotics systems for government and industry. We also manufacture and sell rugged robotics components that allow other organizations to develop their own robots. We are seeking creative, energetic and motivated Mechanical Engineers with strong hands-on product development skills to work on a variety of interesting and challenging robotic perception and mobility projects. This position provides the opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary teams of software, system and electrical engineers as well as technicians and company executives. You will support customer interactions and work to develop engineering specifications to meet customer requirements. As Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will also be the mentor and technical inspiration for the Mechanical Engineering Department. The ideal applicant for this position has the ability and desire to create components in electromechanical and electro-optical systems.

Act as mechanical design lead on multiple projects
Develop conceptual and detailed designs of advanced sensors and autonomous robot
Apply analysis tools and hand calculations to improve designs and inform test methods
Vigorously test complex electro-mechanical and electro-optical systems and support their implementation in a production environment
Help realize customer goals by collaborating with other engineers and utilizing technician support
Prepare product reports and presentations as needed
Mentor others in mechanical engineering department
Product design background, including design work that integrates mechanisms and electronics
Experience working with Software and Electrical Engineers to design, develop, and test products
Solid background in engineering analysis including bearing life, motor loads, material selection, static and dynamic load cases
Experience with environmental sealing, anti-corrosive measures, painting and coatings
Experience conducting COTS trade studies and make-versus-buy decisions
Strong working knowledge of at least one 3D CAD package (Solidworks preferred)
Familiarity with part inspection and measurements, GD&T drawings, and BOM management
Understanding of modelling a variety of load cases in FEA and interpreting results
Apply thermal analysis hand calculations and simulations when necessary
Working knowledge of at least one programming language
Experience releasing products to a production group or contract manufacturer
Ability to convey technical details to customers and communicate customer needs to your technical team
